February 2014: Wintering Elk Quietly Wait for Spring

As grand and stoic creatures, elk stand tall above snow-covered shrubs and rolling hills. They are a remarkable sight this time of year, towering above cottontails, voles and other small critters that scatter in hurried steps to their burrows. Solitude seekers, elk or human, find refuge on the winter prairie, where storms sneak across the horizon and blanket the world with quiet. (Photo by Dennis Lingohr)
