Buffalo Camp at American Prairie Reserve

We are extremely pleased to welcome visitors to the first campground on American Prairie Reserve’s deeded lands.  The campground is located 50 miles south of Malta and four miles north of the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. Travel is on gravel and non-graveled roads. Situated close to a variety of hiking and biking opportunities, this primitive campground features 11 sites (four tent and seven camper) and provides non-potable water, vault toilets and an amphitheater.   The annual camping season is May 15 to November 1.  Before visiting, please visit this website for updates.  For inquiries, or if you are interested in being a campground host, please email christine@americanprairie.org.

Fourchette Bay Campground

Situated in the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, this primitive campground, outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets and shade shelter, is open to the public and provides river access for boating and fishing. Click for additional information.

Camping in Zortman

There are two B.L.M. campgrounds located in the timber at the base of the Little Rockies; the Camp Creek Campground and the Montana Gulch Campground. Click for additional information.

Lodging Options and Where to Eat:

If you aren’t interested in camping, the closest communities with lodging and dining options are Malta and Zortman.  If you are coming from the south, Lewistown is another good option for lodging and dining.
