Thanks to a generous gift from Roger and Rosemary Enrico, construction of a 7,000-square-foot Enrico Education & Science Center nears completion in Spring 2015. The facility is located in the central Sun Prairie region of the Reserve, just down the road from Buffalo Camp, our public campground.
The Center is designed, in part, to provide lodging and facilities for partners, scientists and researchers conducting fieldwork on American Prairie Reserve. In addition, the Enrico Center will further develop the Reserve as a "living laboratory" for students of all ages by acting as a hub for educational programming that instills a deeper appreciation for grassland ecosystems and biodiversity in general.
Along with dedicated work areas, outdoor learning space and offices, the Center will sleep more than a dozen people and feature a fully-equipped commercial-style kitchen. The facility is outfitted with Internet and a land line for distance learning and digital collaboration with global audiences.
"Rosemary and I are especially proud of its unique focus on educating the world's young conservationists," says Roger Enrico, the retired Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Inc. and former Chairman, DreamWorks Animation SKG. He serves on American Prairie Reserve's National Council.
"The Reserve already provides an open environment where kids are encouraged to unplug and explore the landscape around them. Now, with the addition of the Center, there is more opportunity for kids and families to have a rich and engaging experience and for the Reserve to connect with the next generation."
